s602 compact flash problem

I am trying to revive my S602 for my son to use on an upcoming trip and the camera is not allowing for the use of any compact flash card. I receive a "card not initiated" error. I have tried reformatting numerous cards to no avail, and the camera works fine with a smart media card as the primary. I searched the archives and found nothing and I would greatly appreciate any heip I can get.
