Channel Blending?

I have been doing a lot of reading about the use of Channel Blending to achieve effects that are VERY desirable to me. When I see these effects demonstrated, they mention the blending of channels.

I have done quite a bit of research on the topic of Channel Blending, but so far, have found nothing that really tells you HOW to do this. I found ONE explanation, and though I have been using PS for almost 11 years now, I could not follow A THING they said... perhaps it was describing something else.

Anyway, I am just looking for a simple explanation on how to blend channels. I use PS3 if that helps. Anyone who could point me to a place where I could find this "How To", I would greatly appreciate!
