Considering the 1ds III. Came from the 20D. Big difference?

So I have the funds to buy a 1ds III and had a 20D. I always noted that people would say that the results are soft for digital cameras. And I generally observed that with the 20D.

My question to you guys is will I find that this 1ds III will give me significantly sharper images and better AF compared to 20D/40D etc?

I'm happy to spend the money if the results are there.
