How Do I Get a .pdf User Manual That Isn't Write Protected
Feb 16, 2008

My wife's G9 arrived today. She is going to want me to help her learn to use it, and the way I am used to working with user manuals is to download .pdfs of them and then annotate them.

So of course the one I downloaded from the Canon site today is write-protected. Apparently this is all the rage because I had the same problem with several Nikon manuals I downloaded recently. It isn't readily apparent how either of these companies would conceivably lose market share by letting people -- including total strangers who don't even own the camera -- download and annotate the pdf user manual, but obviously both companies think this is very, very important.

At any rate, does anyone know if there is a way I can get my hands on a .pdf of the user manual that isn't write-protected? Is there one on one of the CDs in the box? Can I get one from Canon if I supply a serial number?
