Canon 17-55mm F2.8 IS dust issue. What do you do?
Feb 3, 2008

I recently purchased a used 17-55 IS that seemed clean with no dust inside until I used a blower on the lens, then all of a sudden, several particles of dust appeared on the 2nd outer element. After some use, some of the dust loosened off the glass and is probably hiding out somewhere inside the lens.

I don't like using UV filters and never had a dust issue on my 17-40 F4L but I started using it on the 17-55 as I've read that a filter helps prevent dust accumulating in the lens.

Other than that, I love this lens. It is great! I love being able to handhold a shot at 17mm at 0.3 seconds!

What do you other owners do about the dust issue?
