Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS vs Sigma 17-70
Jan 9, 2008

My 20D dropped in my last visit in Yosemite and it also caused the broke of my Tamron 17-50 f2.8. So I'm looking for a new zoom now.

I'm considering Canon 17-50mm f2.8 IS and Sigma 17-70mm. The major consideration for me is image quality, which include sharpness, color, and contrast. IS to me is more a 2nd consideration.

I have browsed around. The canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS is supposed to be in a class above the Sigma. But I have found more sharp images from the Sigma 17-70mm than I can find for the Canon 17-55 f2.8 which lead me to wonder whether this Canon top of the line lens is really that good (as said in the spec or reviews).

I'd apprecaite some real experiences sharing, especially if you have used both. Which has better image quality?
