I dont know if this will help, but I have also been looking for a tripod.

The thing to consider is the maximum height without the centre column extended. Apparently having the centre column extended reduces stability.

I ended up eliminating most options and now I am considering

-Bogen / manfrotto 055xdb with 804RC2 head (I considered this because the RC2 plate can be switched on to a bogen / manfrotto monopod which also takes the RC2 plate.) Load Capacity 4kg, maximum height 190cm, 148.8cm without column extended, 72.4cm folded length

-Bogen / Manfrotto 190xb max height 145cm, 118.4 without head extended, 53.1 folded lenght, 1.8kg 5kg load capacity

-Boden / Manfrotto 190xdb max height 145cm, 118.4 without column extended, 53.5 folded length, 5kg load capacity 1.6kg.

-Slik 700 weight 2.2kg without head

I dont know which is best, but I swayed towards the 055XDB due to its height advantage.
