Teleconverters for 70-200IS f4 L ?
Dec 31, 2007

Posted this in another forum - probably the wrong one so I'll put it here.

Just recently purchased the Canon 70-200 f4 IS L lens.

Was looking at the 70-300IS for the extra reach but decided to go for the supposed higher quality (and it is a nice lens).

I still would like the extra reach in the future so have been looking at 1.4 teleconverters. The canon one is nearly A$500 !! Quite a lot for what it will do. The canon sales people claim that the canon converter is the only one that will have minimal impact on image quality (I do realise that you will lose a stop).

Tamron, Kenko and Sigma all produce converters for half the price. The APO on the sigma confuses me - not sure it would fit canon - and no explaination on their website to what other lenses it will fit. Some people speak highly of the Tamron and Kenko ones.

Has anyone used this lens with a canon and any of the others to be able to give a comparison ?

As I say the canon is twice the price and if it gives the same quality as the others why pay the extra.

Any thoughts ?
