If you had to choose only one lens to begin playing with your D300,
what lens would that be ?

I red good reviews on the 18-200VR here and on other websites. I used
to have a sigma 18-125 with my 20D and never got satisfied with this
piece of glass (softness, focus not accurate). So will the Nikon
18-200 last longer or is that the kind of lens you inevitably replace
by an other one ?

I was also looking at the 70-200VR with the aim of buying later
another lens at the wide end. I prefer waiting to pay the price and
having something sharp rather than being disappointed again.

Thanks for your advice.

PS: I am not a pro nor a beginner and my preferred subjects are
landscapes, people, macro.

I think you would be better served by buying a D200 or D80 and buying
multiple lenses rather than spending so much on a D300 and then
trying to get a one-lens solution. shrug
