It was cheap and besides a few tiny blemishes only visible upon very close inspection it was like new. I've only put a few rolls through it, but seems in perfect working order.
I recently got a 17-35 refurb and I see no flaws what so ever. Like new in every way. I may have had some use or sat on a shelf for 10 years, but it sure looks perfect and unused.
I generally prefer a refurb/demo to used. Ebay is SO full of exaggerated descriptions, seems like EVERYTHING on ebay is claimed to be like new or mint, but few lenses or cameras are. But you have to weigh the cost vs value. If your only saving a few bucks of new, get it new. If you are saving a bundle, don't hesitate if the seller is reputable (offers some warranty and will take returns if your not satisfied).
