Canon telezooms IQ: 100-400, 70-200IS and nonIS

Having read lots of things on different forums and seen reviews on sites (such as http://www.photozone.de ) I'm getting confused about IQ of some telezooms.
The contadictionary statements (MTF charts taken from :
1) 100-400/4.5-5.6LIS has "not so good" resolution and IQ acording to many, (I have to admit here, that quite a lot of people are almost admiring this lens for versatility and IQ) VS looking at the MTF chart it reaches the IQ of 70-200L series at 400mm (except far border and stopped down,
2) many say that 70-200/2.8IS has worse IQ than non IS or 4LIS VS MTF chart, which shows great performance of the IS version (here I also has to admit that quite a few user admire this lens for IQ, too)
Where is the truth? Since I'd like -in the near future- to buy one of these, any comments are vastly appriciated.
Also I'd be greatful to see some samples of 1.4 or 2x TC with 70-200 lens (perhaps MTF chart)
