Re: Gear safe in Madrid?
In reply to Miguel Fonseca, Nov 1, 2007

I visted my daughter a year ago who lived in an area called Tetuan,Madrid, near the Real Madrid soccer stadium. She, my wife & I found Madrid to be lovely, safe & exciting to visit. All the places mentioned were wonderful & I would go back in a hearbeat.Took my D2x & 18-200 VR lens for ease of travel & never had even a remote problem photography-wise. I frequented Plaza Santa Ana as well as "Sol" & again no problems(unllike warniing previously noted).Walked all day & almost all night(spaniards eat late & are up late even weekdays) & really enjoyed the city & it's inhabitants. My camera was always around my neck but not too conspicuous(under a coat at times).Pick pocketers the main problem but again kept everything hidden so no problems.Palace Hotel was wonderful & very close to main attreactions Enjoyed the Salamanca section as well as El Retiro. Have a great time! I'll probably be back next year-(another daughter studying abroad!)
