430EX as Slave

I just purchased a 430EX and an ST-E2.
Whenever I put the 430EX in slave mode, the af-assist light blinks about once every 2 seconds. This seems to happen if the ST-E2 is turned on or off, if the 430EX is directly attached to my Drebel or not. I can't seem to make it stop.
While the shutter is open, everything seems to be working properly; however, this blinking af-assist light is annoying.
Is there a setting I've missed?
