Nikon 85 1.8 or 50 1.4 for D80 portraits
Oct 4, 2007

I am planning on getting a D80 in couple of months. I am most interested in shooting portraits of my family (including children) with the out of focus background (indoor, but mainly outdoor) - And I want it fast for low light possibilities.

Right now I am debating between the Nikon 50 1.4 and the 85 1.8.

I realize that on the D80, they will equal a 75mm and 127mm.

I am guessing I will most often be able to get 8-10 feet away.

Which of the two mentioned lenses would you recommend? Will the 85 1.8 get me too close? I am not interested in which one is better quality wise, but which is more useable in a wider set of circumstances.

PS - I will probably keep this lens on the camera most of the time until I will be able to afford a walk around lens - maybe the 18-70.
