2.8L 400mm Owners -Question

I currently use the 2.8L 300mm IS with 1.4 TC's....Poor boys 400mm if you will. I've been wanting to purchase the 2.8L 400 IS and am wondering if keeping the 300 is a good idea or will it just become a dust collector?
