Nikon FE + Nikkor 50mm AF (non-D)

I'm buying a Nikon FE with the purpose of using it with my Nikkor 50mm AF non-D (now on D80)

Will there be the same compatibility between body and lens, as there would be with a lens from the Nikon FE period (ai-s)?

I don't think there should be a problem, but I hope someone has first hand experience with this combination.
