Trade 85/1.8 for Tam 28-75/2.8? (stupid idea?)
Jun 27, 2007

Does this sound like a stupid or crazy idea?

I have a Nikon 50mm 1.8, 85mm f1.8, an 18-200VR and a 70-300VR as well as a Vivitar 100mm f3.56 AF macro and a Tokina 400mm f5.6...

Main body is a D200 and D70 for backup...

I love the results of my 85/1.8 but I find myself hardly ever using it as I feel "boxed in" by the fixed focal length at family get togethers....

I usually use it at around f2.8 for the purpose of shallow DOF for people photos of my family and friends...

I was considering selling the 85/1.8 and picking up a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 to have more flexability at family and friend get togethers...

I wanted to have a mid range f2.8 zoom anyways for when I need more speed and less DOF than my 18-200VR...

Would this be crazy to get rid of the 85/1.8 and replace it with the Tamron 28-75 f2.8? For family and friends informal portraits and casual shooting would I be able to get similar results with the Tamron and gain flexability? I just think I would get more use out of a mid range f2.8 zoom...

Money is an issue or else I would keep both or get a Nikon 28-70 f2.8 also...

Thanks for any input...

Bob
