100-400mm Dropped
May 12, 2007

I was talking to my daughter when the pouch slipped out of my hand, fell on the tiled floor. It fell straight down and there wasn't any special noise. I thought the pouch cushion was sufficient to protect it. When I opened it, OH MY GOD! The front glass was shattered.

Now I'm really upset. There goes $500 for the repair. As I look closer, I remembered I had a filter on. It was really tight. When the filter is unscrewed. THANK GOD THE LENSE IS OK!

As I brush away the glass powder, I noticed the lense cap has a pretty good dent on the edge. My conclusion is the lense fell at an angle, the cap absorbed some strength, if the filter is not there, the front glass could be the one shattered. I BELIEVE IN FILTERS. Now I need to test the lense.
