The f/1.4 shootout (35-50-85 mm)
May 11, 2007
|
Initial test shots from the 3 Sony lenses with bright f/1.4 aperture. It seems like the 50 mm f/1.4 gives tremendous value for the money, and from the 3 this is my favourite.
This test shows sharpness. To squeeze more visual sharpness from the soft pictures, Unsharp Mask or Smart Sharpening should be used with values that fits the photographed objects. That is: to obtain maximum sharpness each f-number requires special treatment.
These lenses have other qualities, like high contrast at full aperture and beautiful out of focus rendering. Detail sharpness is not the only quality to look for when choosing glass.
Remember: The pictures are 100 % crops, and represents a print measuring 92 x 137 cm!
Camera Sony A100 on a sturdy Gitzo tripod, ISO 100, raw, manual exposure.
FIRST SERIE: Sony G 35 mm f/1.4
SECOND SERIE: Sony 50 mm f/1.4
THIRD SERIE: Zeiss 85 mm f/1.4
