Lens wize: Canon or Nikon

Hello all,

Let's forget about camera bodies amd lets concentrate on the actual lenses. Here's the question:

Which brand of lenses, Canon or Nikon only, will provide my the best quality of pictures?

Assumptions:
1. Same focal range (ie. 17-55mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, etc.)
2. Forget the price

4. Forget the body (ie. Try to imagine a universal body that can accept both brand of lenses)
