The "Printhead Overheat" message will appear if you print several dark (moderate-high density) images in a row. The darker the image, the more heat that is produced by the printhead, thus requiring a brief cooldown.

The pick problem and abrasion marks sounds like the pick rollers need to be cleaned. Go to the URL shown below for a document I had written when I was at Kodak that describes how to clean the rollers.
