Matrox Video Cards

I know Matrox were THE cards to have a while ago. Supposedly more stable and truer color for 2D work. I am getting ready to put together a Core2 Duo PC and was looking at video cards. I was looking at the Matrox Millenium P650 PCIe but it costs $250 (may find it for $230) and the other video card players offer what appears to be more for less. Although i have no intentions of game playing, should I go for these other cards that feature the nVidia or Radeon chips?
