Considering a R1
Mar 31, 2007

I have been thinking about a R1 for months, and now that they are going for $550 or less, it is harder to hold off. However, I have a few questions for those with the camera?

Are you generally happy with your camera? (There is no perfect machine.)

Has Sony issued any upgrades to the firmware, that might have reduced the complaints regarding noise reduction, etc., mentioned in the reviews? Has anything improved writing time, or reduced the size of RAW files?

Though I own a Canon EOS10D, I would prefer to have a first quality prosumer P&S camera, and the R1 would appear to generally fit my requirements. I shoot mostly landscapes and static subjects, so I am no worried by the small buffer, though I do hesitate when I see how long it takes to write the huge RAW files.

So, are you owners of the R1 still happy?
