Not a "point and shoot"...

A interchangeable retractable lens for a point and shoot camera?

...but a compact digicam. Compacts are no more "point and shoot" than a DSLR. In fact, my first DSLR, the 300D, had less options than my compacts did, and I don't think my 5D is any better in terms of features.

Why not just an all in one lens with greater wide/tele flexibility
so don't have to change anything?

The problem is size. As I said, I don't want a "point and shoot", I want a "compact". A lens with less range can be made faster and smaller, and still retract into the body, whereas a fast all-in-one lens cannot. Thus, the idea of interchangable lenses.

It allows for the option of fast retractable lenses, fast non-retractable lenses, retractable but slow large range zooms (such as the G7 lens), or non-retractable fast long range zooms.

It's all about options.
