New Olympus SP550UZ as good as the SP510UZ?
Jan 28, 2007

I went to Steve Digicams.com ( http://www.steves-digicams.com ) and brought up some samples from the Olympus SP510UZ along with 3 other cameras. I want to say upfront that looking at these samples taken at different times is an absolute waste of time if you are trying to compare to see which camera has the best image quality. Lighting makes all the difference in the world. What you will find is that all 4 cameras are capable of good image quality. Lowest noise levels: Canon G7 very low at 400 and below, 800 useable; Olympus SP510UZ 400 and below very nice, 800 rough.

My conclusion is that if the image quality of the SP550 with its 28mm-508mm lens is as good as the SP510 it will be a force to reckon with. The pictures I looked at are as follows. Children’s park scene, Canon S3 6meg IMG0021, Canon G7 10 meg IMG0328, Panasonic LX2 10meg P1010201, Olympus SP510UZ 7meg P1100011. The 2nd picture is a café, Canon S3 6meg IMG0212, Canon G7 10meg IMG0318, Panasonic Lx2 10meg P1010179, and Olympus SP510UZ 7meg P1100019. Posting these pictures would have taken up too much room.
