No $100 Weddings
Jan 23, 2007

Someone contacted me via email about covering intimate 1 hour wedding at an exclusive restaurant. The ceremony and reception was to be held in the same room. Everything seemed just right until the guy said he was looking to spend $100. This would include 1 hour of coverage, proofs and 50 prints.

After I read the email again in disbelief, I replied that I couldn't do it for anything less than $250. I also mentioned that 1 hour of photography also requires 1 hour of prep and 1 hour of post processing/printing. So his 1 hour actually would take me 3 hours to complete. After I fired off the email I came to the realization that he would find someone to cover the event for his price. Then I started to regret not taking the job because I could use photos like that for my portfolio.

Well, I keep telling myself that I did the right thing and that people who take jobs like that devalue photography. Do you guys think I did the right thing by turning this job down.
