Lighting Metals? Sandblasting? Chroming?

I'm trying to light metal parts for a product line (with strobes and softboxes). My issue here is not the lighting but the parts itself. They are metal castings that have a semi dull surface but has a dirty muddy look to it. I can have it sand blasted and it comes out to a really smoooth but too matte of a finish. Does anyone else have a good idea on how to prep up a surface like this? I've tried chrome plating but that gives the product too much of a shine. Somewhere in between while giving the finished look a nice even grey would be nice.

Has anyone been in this situation and found a happy solution? I'm trying to figure out what other treatments I can do to the surface, paint/etc.
