Canon IP6700D 'Ink Tank Not Recognized'

Got this printer about a month ago and am happy with it for our everyday printing and normal photo prints.
Yesterday we got the message 'ink tank not recognized' for one of the colors. The tank has plenty of inkl! Someone told me that the chip for that tank could have gone bad....Is this possible and is there any recourse?
