Quick help please

Hi,

I just picked up a D40 tonight, my first DSLR so please bear with me. I am going to an autorama auto show tomorrow and would like to take the camera.

When I turn the camera on, the LCD screen does not show what I am shooting, I have to look through the view finder. Can someone tell me how to turn this on? I assume it is in the manual, I am just on a time crunch here as I am headed to bed.

Also, the show is inside. Any suggestions on settings? I was planning on AUTO and set the WB for the flouresent lights.
