Glad you liked it. I am thinkng about one on when to use IS, and when to use tripods. I know this has been discussed before, but maybe we can get the experts all focused on one subject at a time.

I often have OOF shots that suffice with PP, and the percentage of
keepers fall when dropping below 1/1200. The odd thing I noticed
was with my OOF;s many times they were the posed shots! Very
strange indeed consider the difficulty of birds in flight and I
have better luck with them than the still shots. I definitely think
the 20D can get confused sometimes. And it's like once you become
aware of it, you really recognize it even in the viewfinder. I
don't know what it is, and basically I get some great shots, so I
love those, and the lens. But I'm not so sure it's pilot error or
the lens.

I hear you. I shot 198 images yesterday at sunset amd had only a few in focus. There is no rime or reason, shutter speed was high, I was using a Wimberly sidekick and the focus was confrimed in the right place for many that were just plain off. No shake, just OOF. Was it the IS? I have no clue. I don't mind practicing, but I would like to see progress and have some clue what is working and what is not working.

My two best shots this year are hand held, one is a perched eagle, and one is a flyer with stacked converters to 1000mm. Yesterday shooting at a mere 500mm, I did not come close to those shots.
