Hard Drive Constantly "Grinding"
Jan 2, 2007

I have a 3.5 year old Dell desktop computer that has an internal hard drive that started making a "grinding" noise constantly, about 3 months ago. My reading on the Web tells me that it's likely that my hard drive is going to crash, so I am backing up my data religiously. All photo's are currently stored on a separate, external drive as well as on DVD.

Since this computer is approaching being 4-years old, I am faced with a decision to either replace the hard disk (including paying for service to do so) or to replace the computer. If I replace the computer I will do my due diligence and will look at Macs as well as PCs (but not a Dell -- their service has been terrible in my experience).

My question is, has anyone experienced a similar hardware situation with an "older" computer, and did you replace the computer or replace the hard disk?

Kelly
