F30: Help me make sense of these photos

I own a Canon S30 and have been thinking of a smaller camera. My sister just purchased a Fuji F30 which I borrowed and took pictures with each camera. I have read where the F30 is good at low light but the results baffle me. The picture by the Fuji without flash is brighter than the picture with flash! Is this the kind of results others are getting? This seems odd to me.

I took two pictures with each camera, one with flash and one without flash. I also resized all photos to 1280 x 960 for easier viewing and a standard size of all photos, but I also include the original photos as well.
