s9500/Flash

Need help on this.

Using external flash ie: Sunpak 4000,Sunpak 3600 and Nissin 360, I find that at apeture priority I get multi image altho in focus.
Yet on manual and shutter priority, no problem.
I've read the manual thro and thro but can find no reference to this.
Any ideas !.
