Large plastic bottles mounted on wheels. Only a small number of pioneers used them even though they offered highly superior water proofing compared to canvas covers.

Unlike wood and canvas wagons which were sometimes lost during river crossings the drivers of Calistoga wagons merely screwed the caps on their Calistoga wagons and bobbed across.

Those forward-looking individuals settled in upper Napa valley, relaxed in the local hot springs, and fleeced the less intelligent by selling them bottled water for prices higher than gasoline.
