which is a "first prime" lens for low light???

I figure, its the 30mm F/1.4, since it equates to 45mm which is closer to a "natural" focal length, and 50mm is too telephoto to be universely used.

I like taking pictures in dimly lit rooms, without flash at ISO1600. With the kit 18-55 lens at 18mm F/3.5, ISO1600, the ist DL gives shutter speeds of 1/4th to 1/20th in my living room, which is apparently not all that well lit.

Another disadvantage of the 50mm lens is that its hand held limit require s 67% faster shutter speeds, compared to the 30mm lens.

The 50mm is a better portrait lens, has better bokeh, and is more compact and is much lighter. The 50mm lens is available for around $215 shpped, the 30mm is available for $345 shipped. I think pentax has a rebate on the 50mm lens.

Should I go for the 30mm F/1.4?
