Re: FZ50 is not a replacement for a DSLR
In reply to tandemnut, Sep 21, 2006

Fully agreed - I have an FZ30, 10D and 5D - they all have their own strengths and overlap in utility. I am lucky enough to be able to afford this overlap and don't have to make the choice on which one to keep.

However as each has its own strengths and when only one can be afforded there is no reason to commit someone to a 30D when the much lighter, cheaper and quite capable FZ50 will suit well.

Flip lcd screen - versatile built in lens - light weight - magnifying focus on the lcd - extended zoom - ease of use - built in image stabilising. These are some of the reasons why someone might prefer a FZ50 to a 30D.

Nor is a cheap dslr the solution for many, there is an attitude that anything other than a dslr is not a "proper-camera" - others might say that they do not care two hoots for image.

After all a photographer is a photographer and the genius is in the clicking - the camera only helps.
