More questions for Steve_
Sep 10, 2006

First let me take this opportunity to thank you for being such a considerable help to us photogs, you've been a real 'god send'.... I've been due to rebuild my PC for a few weeks now, (present one 3.5yrs old) when I stumbled across your thread 'Core2Duo E6400-B2 performance/overclocking results'... that was a bit of an eye opener for me and I've been following your responses since. Ok lets cut to the chase. My parts are arriving tommorrow: detailed below

1. ASUS P5B-Deluxe WiFi
1. Corsair 2x1GB 240DIMM XMS2-6400 CL4
1. Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 S775 2.13GHz
1. Scythe Infinity Quiet CPU Cooler
1. Zalman ZM-STG1 Super Thermal Grease
1. WD Raptor 150GB S150 16m 10000rpm
1. Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB S300
1. 2 x Antec HD Coolers
1. Inno3D GeForce 7300GT 256MB DDR3 PCIe
1. Zalman VF900-CU Silent VGA Chipset Cooler
1. Antec Sonata II UK Quiet Midi Tower
1. Antec 120mm Smart Cool (Case, Lower Front)
1. Rasurbo 40mm Quiet Cooling fan (chipset)
1. Lite-On DL DVD Burner
1. Floppy Drive
1. 3.5 Internal Card Reader

My question is drive set-up, I see that you have 2 74gb raptors running Raid0.. and I understand the reasoning behind this, but after reading several other posts of yours and hyperfish I'm not sure whether raid for me will show any real benefits. My PC is for PS CS2 RAW processing often 1000 files upwards a week and Adobe Premier video editing, producing 1-2hrs of DVD a week.. I also use TMPGEnc for web streaming movies (30/40 mins a week).. from what I've read the core 2 will be in its element with transcoding. When I come to set my drives up, would I be right to partion my 150gb Raptor? I thought 30gb for OS plus all my apps, I use many including PS CS2- Premier, Coral draw, Dream Weaver etc etc... & use the remaining for scratch/page file.. Then use the 500gb Seagate for work in progress, Nikon nefs, firewire captured video... would this be the fastest way to set up my drives... I have 2 Maxtor 200gb drives that I will salvage from my old PC to store completed work.. I'm just a tad lost on the best way to set up my 2 new drives for the fastest thru put.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Regards
Peter
