If you are using the built-in flash on the D50 to trigger the
SB-800 in SU-4 mode, I think you have to worry about the built-in
flash's pre-shot flashes for iTTL metering. Those pre-flashes are
nasty. They will trigger the SB-800 before the actual exposure.

I use the remote flash triggered mode with my SB-26, but I have to
do FV lock before the shot (and then give the SB-26 time to
recharge after the FV-lock pre-flashes). I believe the SB-800 in
SU-4 mode would act the same way, but I haven't tried that. I
normally use my SB-800 in iTTL mode with an SC-17 cable and use it
to trigger a remove SB-26. They call the flash-triggered mode "D"
mode on the SB-26, I think.

i'm not positive but i don't think that's the case. there's some
kind of relationship between the cam and flash cuz according to the
manual u have to put the flash on the camera first then set it to
su-4 manual before removing it. i've fired off several shots now
and have seen no evidence of these "nasties".

Wow! If that's true, that is a very good feature of the SB-800,
but that seems like a stretch to me. I'll have to try this when I
get home to my SB-800; don't have it with me this week.

works like a charm, doug
