Swivel LCDs - question for Mike
Aug 25, 2006

Mike, I've been reading a lot that swivel LCDs can't be used by other manufacturers than Canon or Nikon (without paying royalties I guess), do you know if that's true or just a misconception?

I allways wondered why is it that we don't see them in high-end models, like the P880, but I allways thought that it was to cut manufacturing costs and to avoid parts that could break "easily" (I have a Nikon Coolpix 5400 & 5700, and they have endured a lot, without any problem).

Sorry about the off-topic, but I think that you are the only one with the sources to confirm this : )

PS: if you see any of the guys that decided to go ahead and produce prosumers like the P880, tell them that they are doing a great job : ) You could add that we really hope to see a succesor with swivel lcd and IS hehe
