Purple objects come out blue indoors or outdoors

Abaout a week ago I went to a wedding and took some shots of the cake which had purple flowers made of glacé. I couldn´t believe my eyes when I realised that it showed blue on the LCD, even before taking the picture. Then I found a woman with a similiar colour dress and it also showed blue on both the LCD and after the photo was taken. The settings were all in AUTO, then I tried taking the pic without flash and different EV but the same thing happened over and over again. After a couple of days I was travelling close to where I live and I saw light purple flowers outdoors. When I took a photo in AUTO mode, the flowers which were under sunlight appeared with its normal colour but the flowers in the shade appeared blue!!! How come?!
