Crappy results with Epson R800
Jul 24, 2006

Hi all.

I have two problems with my R800:

1. Horizontal banding, especially with certain colors.

2. Highly inaccurate color

I've tried nozzle-cleaning and alignment for the banding, but the Epson alignment facility only addresses VERTICAL banding. I've never even seen vertical banding on this printer; the problem's all horizontal.

The color problem is perplexing. Looking at a page in Corel Draw, the color looks one way. On printout, what should be purple is blue. Interestingly, the preview is also greatly shifted, although not as completely as the printout. Furthermore, the color controls in the printer-driver dialog do absolutely nothing as far as I can tell. They don't affect the preview or the printout.

Check out this result. On the left is the original image; the right is the print preview. The printed result was even more universally blued.

Thanks for any insight as to how to calibrate these colors, and why the color-adjustment controls in the Epson dialog do nothing.
