Nikon D50 + AF 28-80mm

Hello,
I'm ready to move to SLR photography and I want to buy the Nikon D50 because of its quality and price.
I don't know what's going on but it's getting hard to find this camera with the 18-50mm lens. Instead, I found this camera in grey color but with the Nikkor 28-80mm lens.
My question is: is this lens apropriate for digital? Does the final image quality suffer if I use this lens on this camera?
