1.6 crop factor on Tamron 200-500 (& others)

Hi
Just breading some info on this & find it states that on a Canon 30D this lens becomes a 760mm..... I have been multipling by 1.6, and I make this 800??
Cabn someone explain please as I have got my reasoning wrong somewhere?
