Is this an AE bug?
Jun 3, 2006

I have a 5D. On page 95 of the manual, it says:

"If one-shot AF ..... is set, pressing the shutter button halfway to focus will automatically set AE lock at the same time"

So, here is what I did:

Camera settings:

Firmware ver 1.0.5
Av mode (or Tv mode)
One shot center point focus
Fn 4 at 0

Case 1: Set metering at Evaluative

Half press shutter to focus, keep pressing it, recompose, the shutter speed stays the same meaning AE is locked.

Case 2: Set metering at anything other than Evaluative, such a spot metering.

Half press shutter, recompose, the shutter speed changes meaning AE is not locked. (AF remains locked)

I can achieve AE lock in non-Evaluative metering only when I set Fn 4 to 1 and use the * button for AE lock separately.

I wonder if this is an AE firmware bug or I misunderstood the operation of the camera. I would have thought in spot metering mode, one is more likely to recompose hence AE lock is needed.

Please confirm if your 5D behaves the same or if I misundstood the functioning of half-pressing the shutter.

Thanks,

Shii
