17-40 Wide Enough

I'm debating between the Canon 17-40 and the Canon 10-22. I hear people define the 10-22 as an Ultra Wide and the 17-40 Wide. Is the 17-40 wide enough on a 30D for landscape and group shots. The widest I have right now is the Tamron at 28mm at times I feel a need a wider lens for some building shots, group shots, and landscape shots. Would the 17-40 be wide enough on a 30D??? the 10-22 would be perfect to cover my range from 10-200mm 10-22,28-70, and 70-200 is the 10-22 really ULTRA wide??? Plus I really dig the look of the L glass.
