17-55 lens hood - when and what

Ok, so it doesn't ship with one and the optional model is currently not available.

As a fast Plan B, is the 24L lens hood the best option?

Does anyone know when the 17-55 hood is shipping?

Does anyone know if the hood will be different from the 24L hood - are there photos anywhere?
