This is most likely your problem. When you install an update, it checks to make sure you have the original install files, though this little tidbit of information is never really made clear during the update process. I ran into the same problem, and when I unpacked the install files from the original installation, and ran the update again, it worked fine. Note that they need to be in the same location you originally installed from.
