Flat Stitching

Hi all

I have been reading how to flat stitch multiple images using the tilt/shift lenses to achieve a higher resolution image. This proceedure I understand. However would this kind of stitching work if the whole camera was shifted incremetally instead of using a TS lens. I was thinking of using something like the Really Right Stuff macro fosusing rail, to shift the whole camera 10 mm at a time in one plane. Anythoughts.
