Flash or Pocketwizard

Ok so my wife want to buy me a birthday gift. I am trying to choose between a pocket wizard or an addition flash I have a 580 ex right now. I am very new to lighting techniques and generally want a very portable solution. I have tried all the different flash gadgets with some success and some failures including:
Gary Fong's LS II PJ (works ok images are soft though)
Flashbracket - CB Junior (with a 20d and 24-70 lens, heavy as heck)
OmniBounce- ( Realistic lighting, Good light balance)
Lumiquest - Promax kit
The question is what do I choose flash ir radio remote ?
