What macro/close up lens for A2?
Mar 13, 2006

Have been trying to make some kind comparison of different options by going through forum but getting even somehow consistent picture of different choises is hard.

So is there anyone who has studied subject more?

My requirements would be that lens wouldn't require cramming lens to side of object, first of all it would shadow object and I definitely aren't going to get extra flash gear just for that... also live bugs wouldn't like much from going closer.

Then good image quality, I can accept if there's some unsharpness in corners but if only center half of pic is sharp that's unacceptable. (same goes for CA)
Also "magnification" should be quite good.

And while I'm not expecting size/thickness of normal filters neither it should be size of small SLR-lens.

KM's own macro lens has good quality and apparently retain's distance to target really well while magnification is in middle class, but apparently smaller diopter CU's can be used with CL49-200 with good results giving some extra magnification if necessary:

Then plain CU lenses seem to be able to give more "magnification" but distance appparently drops sharply and and what I've seen quality could suffers really much with big diopter CUs.

Then there's Raynox DCR-250 whose biggest plus would be fast attaching method, also "magnification" is apparently quite close to CL49-200 but I wonder does it require cramming lens much closer to target.

PS. Raynox seems to be going from macro to "micro" with their MSN200/202 and MSN500/505... http://raynox.co.jp/comparison/digital/comp_fps9000.htm#msn500
